Camp NaNoWriMo

2nd Day of Camp NaNo – End of Day

Well, I have finished day two of Camp NaNo with 1446 words. Not as many as yesterday, but I had one busy day today and I am surprised I was able to write as much as I did with all the cooking, baking, and cleaning that went on today.

I started writing after my husband when to bed which was about 10:30PM and by midnight had written about 200 words short of my daily word count.

Tomorrow will not be as busy. Just some laundry to do so I should be able to exceed my word count for tomorrow. At least I striving to do so.

My story has taken a few turns I did not expect, which I think is always exciting in writing. You start out with this one idea or plan for how you want things to go and then events in the story and your characters end up leading you in another direction to either the same end, or a different end completely. It is just amazing and an adventure! So much fun!

Well it is after 12AM here on the east coast of the good old U.S.A and I am trying to decide if I want to take a break or keep working and get some words in early on this 3rd day of Camp NaNo.

Hmmmm… The decisions! lol

Good night all and best of luck again tomorrow!

1st Day of Camp NaNo Round Up

Whoo hoo! What a day it has been today. I had a rough start to the day and as much as I wanted to write on my story the words either would not come or came in spurts. But the tally of words for the first day of Camp NaNo is 2,164! An awesome start! I am very excited I have exceeded my goal for the day, because I wasn’t so sure I was even going to hit the 900 word mark earlier in the day. But God sure is helping me. It is so much better doing things with Him. You never know what will happen or what ideas He will give that will take your story down a path you haver have thought of.

Love it! So thankful for the gift of writing and that there are opportunities for writers to be able to come together during Camp NaNo and the November NaNo! It is awesome to be able to share a wonderful gift and encourage each other along the way to our goals.

How did you do on your first day?

Get some rest tonight! I’m off to bed. Another writing day tomorrow.

Night all and see you in the morning!

God bless!

1st Day of Camp NaNo – April

Today is the first day of Camp NaNo. I am rewriting a bit of a story I had started a couple years ago. The more I read the story the more I realized it wasn’t going the way I had intended. So I have been working on ways to change that.

So far I am over 800 words but the day isn’t over yet. Caring for a young child while trying to write is interesting. I have had to learn to write in spurts and try to be quick at picking up where I left off. It isn’t easy, but I hope I can cope with this and manage each day to make the minimum word count so I can reach my goal.

Soon it will be nap time and then dinner and family time and then after everyone is in bed, I am planning to carve out more time tonight for NaNoing.

I plan to check in again later this evening.

Best of luck!

Camp NaNo Preparation

Here I am, sitting at my desk, in the early evening, feel happy, but exhausted from the busy day with Church and then a family gathering and adventures outside. It is that time again. Camp NaNo is going to be starting in several hours and I am preparing myself to finish a novel I started last two years ago during my first Camp NaNo called Facade. I am planning to finish the story this time around. If you visit my page: http://campnanowrimo.org/campers/jimonroe you will be able to see information about me and a link to my story. Here is a brief on what Facade (title in the works) is about:

Wesley and Keith Pierce are born in Tupelo, Mississippi on June 6, 1935. Wesley goes on to become a rock star while Keith remains a farmhand. After a few years of touring, Wesley demands a vacation and travels north to New York. He is in New York City but the rush of the city becomes more than Wesley can handle. He longs for quiet and solitude. He jumps in a car and drives into Northern New York. His car breaks down on Sulpher Springs Road. With a leather jacket slung over his shoulder, he walks three miles down the road to the nearest house. This is where Wesley meets Christine Duncan, a good old country girl. Wesley becomes so involved in Christine’s life on the family farm that he pushes his music career out of his mind. He has found something more important to him than music.

Wesley’s brother Keith becomes concerned when Wesley doesn’t come home in the time frame he said he would be home. Keith sets out to find Wesley and tracks him down. Keith is already jealous of Wesley’s fame, but becomes enraged with jealousy when he finds Wesley with a girl (Christine). Keith feels Wesley gets everything so easily when he, Keith, has to fight for everything. Keith gets his brother to return home and continue his singing career saying that he would bring Christine on the next flight back to Tupelo. Wesley agrees to return home. However, Christine is blind to what’s happening. Wesley returns home, but Keith remains at Christine’s side and pretends to be Wesley. At first Christine believes in Keith’s facade, but the longer the relationship goes on, the more Christine sees things that are not characteristic of Wesley. It’s not until Christine watches a televised concert at one of her friend’s place does she spot Wesley on TV. It is then she puts things together and uses her friend’s phone and calls Wesley’s home. She leaves a message with Wesley’s dad, but will Wesley receive her message and save Christine from Keith’s destructive grasp?

I am reworking some names that I didn’t quite like the first time around but am more comfortable with now. Just need to rework one name and then I’ll reread what I had written last time around and see what I need to do to pick up where I left off. I am shooting to write 50,000 words this coming month.

What is your word going to be for April’s Camp NaNo? Are you working on fiction, nonfiction, poetry? I’d love to hear from you!

Best of luck to everyone participating this month! I am also going to have daily updates on my progress.

“Once Within A Lifetime” Book Formatting

Wow! I cannot believe how long it has been since I have posted something. I have been so busy helping an elderly friend format her book Once Within A Lifetime into Kindle and paperback forms via CreateSpace. I also worked with her ideas to create the cover of the book. A few days ago I finished the book cover and yesterday I finished formatting the book for Kindle. I have learned many lessons along the way just about publishing on Kindle.

When I first started publishing my own books on Kindle, I just formatted them the way a book would be formatted to go to a traditional publisher. I had no idea at the time that there was a specific way to format books to look there best on a Kindle. So this time, I used my PC Kindle Reader and used the book: Building Your Book For Kindle

Wish I had known of this book when I published my first Kindle books. I know I will have to go back and redo at least one of them.

Today I finished formatting Once Within A Lifetime for CreateSpace using a 6×9 book template from the CreateSpace website.

I finished the book cover using images from www.morguefile.com and the software programs Picasa and Gimp.

I still have a lot to learn in the book design and marketing/promotion area but I know that will come in time as I continue reading on the subjects and practicing.

Once Within In A Lifetime is available in Kindle format and soon to be in paperback format. The next format after that would be audiobook through www.acx.com.

God bless, and may God guide you through all your writing and publishing adventures!

Indie AuthorArtist Book Catalog

Okay I had this idea of creating a catalog of books created by Indie Authors. This idea just popped into my head today.

So far the catalog would include:
Author biographies (brief)
Author pictures
Book covers
Book information including formats they are available in, price, page length, summary
Links to books
Links to author site/blog
Who created your book covers

If you have any ideas to add to this, or would like to take part in this, please feel free to contact me via email with all of the above information. Please, don’t forget to tell me what genres your books are in.

I look forward to hearing from you!

General Updates

Recovery

I sit here in a quiet house, everyone asleep, and the clock is about to tick midnight, Ah and so it did, On February 28th, I had surgery on my left hand for severe carpal tunnel syndrome. My hand is healing nicely and only have pain once in a while or if I accidently stretch my hand and pull the stitches.

On Thursday I get the stitches removed and then I’ll find out what comes after that.

It has been a challenge typing one-handed and things take longer to get done. It was frustrating at first, but I have learned to be patient with myself, as well as reminding myself that this is temporary.

Not sure when I’ll be back to writing regularly, but I will keep you all updated! So thankful God made me ambidextrous. I don’t know what I would do if I wasn’t.

My best to all and God bless!

General Updates

On Vacation — Well Recovery

I just wanted to write and let everyone know that tomorrow I will be having surgery on my left wrist for carpal tunnel issues and so may not be posting anything for a while.  I didn’t want anyone to think I just disappeared or forgotten my readers. Nope! Still here, just will be in recovery phase for a few weeks and then back to writing which will be great. Maybe I’ll actually be able to feel the pen in my hand and the keys of the keyboard under my fingers a little better. lol.

Well, off to get a snack and then do what I can today because after surgery tomorrow morning, I won’t be able to do much for the next few weeks. Good time to get some reading done!

God bless!

A Daughter's Reflection

A Daughter’s Reflection – New Changes

After praying, and getting feedback from other writers I have decided to scrap A Daughter’s Reflection as it stands as a memoir and turn it into a fictional piece albeit based on true events. I feel by telling my story this way, I can better fill in any gaps of my story as it is now, as well as delve deeper into some areas I could not do with the nonfiction area. Going fiction will also remove any concerns of family members getting upset with me or taking offense to anything I have to say. So in a way, I still get to tell my story even if God and I are the only ones who know what is truth from fiction.

The title of the book will probably be changing. I am hoping by the time I post again I will have a new title for you as well as introduce you to the main characters.

Today I plan on working on the character sheets and story arc. I have several ideas so I best get going before I lose them!

Chat at ya again soon!

Have a great day! :)

A Daughter's Reflection

A Daughter’s Reflection – Book Changes & In Question of Ever Publishing

In my last post I talked about reading the book The Power of Memoir: How to Write Your Healing Story before finishing my book, A Daughter’s Reflection, for release on Amazon.

Well, today I have gone through the book and it has confirmed several points I had roaming in the back of my mind such as:

1) How would my family and friends feel if they discovered I used their real names? Would they be upset? (I really don’t want to upset anyone nor do I want to live in anxiety and fear of the possibility that someone “could” get upset.)

2) Would they be upset that I published my story of caring for our mother, feeling that it was personal and no one else should know about it.

3) I was also concerned about gaps in my journal entries. The journal entries work well in telling my story, but there were times when I had not written anything in days so there were large gaps from one incident to another. I fear these gaps may leave my story lacking.

So I guess, two conclusions result of this:

1) I change the story to a more fictional account of what happened…

or

2) I never publish my story….

but am I content with never sharing my story? And I am asking myself, why do I feel it is so important? Do I really need to do this? Do I think anyone would really be interested in this story of a teenage girl who suddenly ends up her mother’s caretaker until her mother’s death four months later? Would be people be interested in how a teenager handled and sought to recover from such loss? Or are people more interested in reading fiction and reading things that take them away from the harsh realities of this world? Would I rather write fiction, myself, and not delve into my past of truths to share my story because it might still be painful?

I cannot honestly answer these questions without thinking further about them. And I cannot answer some of the questions because I do not know what other people think or prefer for reading material.

Some things I must think about…

I am open to any thoughts and suggestions anyone might have.

Thanks for reading!
