A Daughter's Promise, Novel In November

Writing a Novel in November?

I am. And the novel I’m working on is titled A Daughter’s Promise where 17 year old Sage Buchanon learns that her mother is terminally ill. Her mother is worried Sage and the rest of her family will walk away from the Lord after her death. Sage doesn’t want her mom to worry so she promises her mother she won’t walk way from God. But after her mother passes Sage finds it hard to keep her promise due to the anger she feels toward God. Can Sage keep her promise, or will she disappoint her mother’s memory and walk away from God after all?

On Day 1 I wrote 403 words as I always find it hard to get going on the first day but once I get into the swing of things it gets a bit easier. So as the days progress I’m sure my word count will too.

If your working on a novel this month, what is your title (if you have one) and what is your story about? Feel free to leave a comment or send me an email at mistsofthenorthwoods@gmail.com

I can’t wait to hear what you’re working on and how far you’ve come! Happy writing!

God bless,

Janis

Writing and Personal Updates

I don’t have much to update as far as the writing goes. I’m still working on chapter outlines for A Daughter’s Promise. It may be slow but I’m making good progress when I get to it.

AND… part of the reason my writing has been going slowly is because of this little guy:

Meet the newest member of our family. His name is Sebastian or as my kids call him Sebby. He’s a 1 1/2 month old Maine Coon and he’s a trouble maker but I love him dearly. Anyway the couple of weeks leading up to his arrival we spent cleaning the house and making sure everything would be safe for him. So I haven’t had much writing time. That should change now that he’s here with us.

I’ll have an exciting post next week. Exciting for anyone who used to participate in NaNoWriMo that is. And I’ll reveal all next week.

Have a good week!

A Daughter's Promise

Cool Sunny Wednesday In Maine

It’s 11:22AM, and I’m looking out the window and listening to a local Christian radio station. I don’t know about you, but listening to music helps get me going in the morning and keeps me going throughout the day. Of course, a little caffeine in my vanilla caramel tea helps too.

So where am I this morning? As I sit down to write, I look over what I have written from previous days. I’m currently working on the outline for chapter one of A Daughter’s Promise. In my outline, I include more than what most authors do which are basically just main ideas. I do the same, but also add dialogue or any details that pop up as I’m writing. I don’t want to forget anything that comes into my head. I never know where that main idea or dialogue will be useful.

In my outline, I put the Novel title at the top, center of the page, then “chapter outline” and then Prologue if I have one and start with bullets for main ideas instead of numbers or letters. The numbers and letters distract me and confuse me the more I go along. Bullets are just easier but still help the ideas stand out.

Beginning Outline for Chapter One

I’m about a quarter of the way through chapter one (title pending), and I look forward to make more progress today, providing I can stay awake. *Yawn* Yeah… we will see how this works. Hopefully, after my sleep study I will have a diagnosis that can be treated and I’ll be able to stay awake for longer periods of time and get more work done. I’d like for this story to be published by the end of next year. I wish I could make concrete goals but in all reality I just can’t. I can only go by how long I can stay awake each day. It sucks, but that’s the way it is right now.

I’m grateful for any progress I make, in spite of my sleepy issues. And I know that God is guiding me every step of the way! I pray He guides you as well.

Any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments or write to me directly at soucieji@gmail.com

Have a great day everyone and happy writing!
