Camp NaNoWriMo, General Updates

Back To It Again

Ah, so here we are again. I said I was going to take a break from writing and search out other things in life, like other interests, but there comes a problem when characters keep popping into my head and scenes play like moves, and story is just begging to be told. Characters sit in my head, acting out their stories, but their stories are not being heard. Why? Because I am not writing them.

It seems as though a writer cannot take a TRUE vacation from writing. It is in the very core of their being, part of what God built into them, into me. When I tried to pursue other interests, I realized that these other interests involved some kind of writing as well, so really, I wasn’t taking a break at all.

So I have decided to pick up one of the fictional stories I started last year for Camp NaNoWriMo called Lasting Shadow and see how much farther I can get with that. Finding my story and character sheets will be interesting. If I can’t find them already printed and sitting in my filing cabinet, I will have to print everything again, but that’s no big deal. I’ll just happy to write fiction and have fun doing it.

When my daughter is old enough, she’ll get to read my stories and that just brings a smile to my face. Also, to keep writing, is do not only what God built into me when he made me, but also to continue to pursue something my mother was very supportive of when she found out I wanted to be a writer in my early teen years. So in a way, writing is like honoring her memory as well. I’m sure she would be proud of me if I kept going, but perhaps disappointed if I stopped writing, but I don’t think that is an option for me. I have learned so much. Not just to write a novel, but how to social network, how to blog, how create my own book covers, how to publish via CreateSpace and Amazon KDP, writing press releases.

I have learned all of this and I am helping and elderly woman from my church by the name of Phyllis Georgina Rose who has just published her book The Rose Garden. I am using my skills to help her publish her books and help her books to become more known. All I can do is try my best and pray. God will have to take it the rest of the way.

You will find both Phyllis’ book and my books on www.goodreads.com as well as Amazon and other places online. I hope you check out our work!

We’ll continue to work hard so you have more to read. :)

So Many Ideas

Okay, so my mind is going totally crazy with all sorts of ideas. I have two books I started last year. One was with Camp NaNo and the other was with the regular NaNoWriMo. So I could work on those…but then my mind is like, you have been through some things that could help others like PTSD, Depression, Anxiety, being highly sensitive to certain things, gluten intolerance…why not write those first since more people would benefit? Then, there are these ideas for creating a magazine or two, problem with that is getting contributors who will work for free at the start. Ugh!!! I desire to write, but why can’t I decide what to write about? Can’t figure out why this decision is so hard!

Has anyone else run into this same problem? Maybe it’s just something someone with the “idealist” personality goes through such as me. I am an INFP.

So darned hard to focus on one thing. But I think I will work on the book about PTSD since I most have that written, just need to make some changes and I’ll be done with the first draft.

After that will be the book on gluten intolerance, which I have mostly written as well and just need to make a few changes on that will have another rough draft.

Wow! Guess I was closer to having two more books done and didn’t even realize it. I think after those two books are done I can make another decision on what to write. I will keep everyone updated on my progress. Best of luck to everyone!

Allergies and Writing

Well, my writing has been going at a slow place lately. I believe allergies are really kicking my butt and keeping me from getting a good night’s sleep and therefore I’m groggy and not feeling well the following day. Hopefully a doctor’s appointment later this afternoon will help with the allergy situation. Guess we’ll see.

My writing will have to wait until I am feeling better. I did make a dent in my story, Lasting Shadow, for the August Camp NaNo, though I don’t know if I’ll be reaching my word count for this month, but I’m not giving up yet. The best I can do is take each day as it comes and do what I can during that day without pushing myself to the point of feeling ragged. To all those writers out there best of luck on your project. And to all those allergy sufferers, best of luck in managing your symptoms and getting the most out of each day!

13th Day of Camp NaNo

Back again. Today I wrote like mad. I have written 3,281 words today and it is just about midnight, ready to go into another day. The average words to write a day is 1,612 but since I am behind I need to write about 2,161 words a day in order to finish on time. We’ll see how many words I can bang out tomorrow. But for now it is off to bed. Night all you campers!!! Sleep tight and may you wake refreshed for another day of writing tomorrow!!! :)

12th Day of Camp NaNo

Well yesterday (the 12th) was the 12th day of Camp NaNo. I wrote about 2,100 words and now have a story that is 7,806 words long. Yes, I am behind where I should be. Having company for a week at the beginning of the month really put me behind. Thankfully I know if I work hard and write about 2,300 words a day I can make up the difference and still reach my goal at the end of the month. Now, on Saturday I will be traveling and next weekend we will have company for three days. Ugh! I am going to try to reach my goal this month, but if I don’t make it this month, there is always next month for another round of Camp NaNo. Well, here goes. Let’s see how many words I can write for this, the 13th day of Camp NaNo. Best of luck to all you campers out there!

5th Day of Camp NaNo

Well, I must admit. It is the 5th day of Camp NaNo and I have fallen behind with my word account. Was able to exceed my daily minimum word count yesterday, but I have not written anything as of today. Rather hard when I have company visiting, but that’s okay. I don’t get to see friends from New York very often. Hopefully, as the week wears on I’ll be able to get back to my writing.

So far where I stand with Facade is 4,020 words. That leaves me with about 45,980 words to go. Sheesh! Better get crackin’ as soon as I can.

Best of luck to all you writers out there!!

1st Day of Camp NaNo

Yep. It’s here. Camp NaNo began today. Shortly after midnight I began writing but only wrote for a short while before having to go to bed. But a 9AM I was at it again. I wrote until early afternoon and reached 1665 words. I surpassed the minimum which was 1612 words. A little ahead but not much. I was on a role this morning and I hope to be again tomorrow, however, I have company for the 4th so I don’t know how much writing I will get done. We shall see. Best of luck to all those campers out there! Happy writing!

Kindle Books

I’ve been busy today putting together some small poetry manuscripts for Kindle. The three that I published today were: Heat of the Night: A Collection of Poetry on Love, Day & Night: A Collection of Nature Poetry, and Everlasting Arms: A Collection of Religious Poetry. I think I had them set to sell for $0.99 but I will have to double check that. I also published, The History of Sackets Harbor, New York. Once the links become available for these works I will put up another post. Now that those are done I am going to get to work on Facade. I still need to work on some background information for characters and the bare bones of an outline all before tomorrow when Camp NaNo starts. Shall be fun! Sure can’t wait for tomorrow! I check back in then!

Story for Camp NaNo

Yesterday the Camp NaNo site went live and I am so happy about that. I have set up my profile and my novel info. Here is the synopsis of the novel I will be working on:

Title: Facade

Synopsis:

Robbie and Keith Pierce are born in Tupelo, Mississippi on June 6, 1935. Robbie goes on to become a rockstar while Keith remains a farmhand. After a few years of touring, Robbie demands a vacation and travels north to New york. He is in New York City but the rush of the city becomes more than Robbie can handle. he longs for quiet and solitude. He jumps in a car and drives into Northern New York. His car breaks down on Sulpher Springs Road. With a leather jacket slung over his shoulder, he walks three miles down the road to the nearest house. This is where Robbie meets Christine Duncan, a good old country girl. Robbie becomes so involved in Christine’s life on the family farm that he pushes his music career out of his mind. He has found something more important to him than music.

Robbie’s brother Keith becomes concerned when Robbie doesn’t come home in the time frame he said he would be home. Keith sets out to find Robbie and tracks him down. Keith is already jealous of Robbie’s fame, but becomes enraged with jealousy when he finds Robbie with a girl (Christine). Keith feels Robbie gets everything so easily when he, Keith, has to fight for everything. Keith gets his brother to return home and continue his singing career saying that he would bring Christine on the next flight back to Tupelo. Robbie agrees to return home. However, Christine is blind to what’s happening. Robbie returns home, but Keith remains at Christine’s side and pretends to be Robbie. At first Christine believes in Keith’s facade, but the longer the relationship goes on, the more Christine sees things that are not characteristic of Robbie. It’s not until Christine watches a television concert at one of her friend’s place does she spot Robbie on TV. It is then she puts things together and uses her friend’s phone and calls Robbie’s home. She leaves a message with Robbie’s dad, but will Robbie receive her message and save Christine from Keith’s destructive grasp?
