A DAUGHTER’S PROMISE
Sage, a 17-year-old girl, finds out her mother has terminal stage four cancer. She is her mother’s primary caretaker until hospice moves in. Sage’s mother fears Sage will walk away from God after her passing. Sage makes a promise to her mother that she won’t walk away. But after her mother’s passing, she finds it difficult to keep her promise.
About a year after her mother’s death, Sage is still struggling with grief and can’t seem to pull herself out of it. Her family is concerned when Sage becomes very depressed. Her depression doesn’t respond to medications, so Sage ends up going through ECT, or electroconvulsive therapy, and ketamine infusions to treat the depression.
The ketamine infusions help ease the depression. But it is not until Sage finds her way back to the Bible, and keeping her promise, that she truly begins to heal.
